Homeless Project - Winter Shelter Haringey

The Winter Shelter initiative started at FMC in December 2010 to serve the needs of homeless people and to help them in Haringey during the cold winter months.  We in this project network with other participating churches that take it in turn to welcome and house guests one day a week.  All referrals are risk assessed by the local authority beforehand.

The work that FMC has started has raised passion in many volunteers and we all aim to make sure that this vital provision survives and continues to help everyone in need in this area in the future on a yearly basis. FMC church does not receive any subsides for the project relying instead on the good will of our volunteers.  The shelter helps a wide range of people from mainly Haringey, providing each with a warm, friendly, clean, safe environment to come in socialise and sleep.  We offer our guest a hot evening meal and breakfast, facilities to freshen up and hope for a new day.  The previous years has been greatly successful and very rewarding to look back and see how many people were helped during the winter period, and has now happily settled in suitable accommodation.
